Rijden een Lamborghini - een onvergetelijke ervaring

Lamborghini is known worldwide for its high-performance sports cars. Located in a small village outside of Bologna (Italy), the company was founded by Italian businessman Feruccio Lamborghini.

Before he in sports cars, Lamborghini owned a tractor factory. According to the story told by his son, Lamborghini was not satisfied with the link in his Ferrari 250 GT, and went to Enzo Ferrari with a complaint. Ferrari Lamborghini sent away, says that he should stick to tractors, because he couldn't drive cars.

When Lamborghini came home, he realized that it was dismantled his Ferrari's link and manufactured by the same company that the claws that he uses in his tractors manufactured. He fixed the problem using a spare part from his own factory.

Whether or not the story happened exactly as told, it is clear that Lamborghini started his business because he was sure he could beat the competition. He started the company Lamborghini Automobili Lamborghini 350GT in 1963, with the the company sold more than 130 models after displaying the prototype at the Turin Auto Show in 1963. Lamborghini 400 GT and 400 GT followed with the 2 + 2 in the following years. In 1965, the legendary Lamborghini Miura-which increased the name produced from the company to the heights of Ferrari and Maserati.

Although the cars were quickly sell globally, yet the car factory is not completely self-sufficient. Lamborghini maintained his successful tractor company for many years after he began with the production of sports cars. In 1974, however, the company received a setback. Earlier, had a South American company in an order placed so large that Lamborghini had to the tractor factory in order to comply with the upgrade. After he spent a large part of money upgrading the factory been, the customer the order will be canceled.

Lamborghini decided to sell the tractor company and focus on cars. For a while the company survived mostly on sales of the popular Miura. Once the company started to do good, Lamborghini sold the company for a Swiss investor and retired. His name, but remained with the company.

Lamborghini has experienced its share of ups and downs since then. The declared shortly after the founder withdrew, and it was bought and sold many times bankrupt. It passed through the hands of the Swiss, American and Indonesian interests through the years, and today the property of the German company Audi.

If you have ever seen a Lamborghini, you can probably understand the appeal of this distinctive cars. Most Lamborghini are aggressively looking, hugging the ground like a panther. Many models have doors that lift vertically instead of the opening to outside-a unique look invented by the brand. They immediately recognizable, and you're definitely turn heads while you're on the road in one.

As for driving a Lamborghini, there are many different models to choose from. They all have one thing in common, however: speed. A typical Lamborghini can accelerate fast enough pressure on you in your Chair and your stomach drop on the floor. The low attitude of the car increases its aerodynamic properties, and the large tires digging into the asphalt.

The qualities that make the perfect performance car, however, also have some disadvantages. Many Lamborghini models have a low mount, causing damage to the bottom a danger. Don't expect a lot of interior space or storage, either. Enforceability is generally sacrificed for performance. This is obviously not the type of car that you would use to help your friend move or go to the supermarket.

While close to the drive from a true F-1 race car driving a Lamborghini is, you don't have any special training to do it. The cost to buy one is priceless for many, but you can still experience the thrill of driving through a company that driving experience days offers. Many driving experiences take place at circuits, where do you get the chance of making the car acceleration, performance by curves, and more to explore in a safe environment.

If you're looking for an unforgettable experience, you won't find something like a Lamborghini. Their pure speed and power will give each driver a sensation, or on the highway or the circuit. As an opportunity to drive a comes your way, don't hesitate to take it. It Is sure to give you a ride that you will never forget.

Brand New Car Reviews: Lexus Hybrid 2012

Lexus Hybrid 2012 - Introduction

Due to the constant rise in fossil fuel prices, hybrid cars are getting more and more popular these days. A hybrid vehicle uses the combination of the traditional internal combustion engine propulsion system with an electric propulsion system. The result of this combination is a vehicle with better fuel economy and even better performance compared to conventional vehicles. Hybrid vehicles exist in the form of hybrid cars, trucks, as well as buses.

Lexus is one of the several car brands that have implemented this green technology into their cars. Lexus is a luxury vehicle division of the Toyota Motor Corporation, which happens to be the world's largest car manufacturer. The first Lexus hybrid car was introduced in the year 2004. Ever since, this marque has committed to produce more hybrid cars for the auto market. As a matter of fact, in 2009, Lexus sold more hybrid cars than conventional petroleum-based cars in the European market. Shortly after that, the company announced plans to become a hybrid-only brand in Europe.

According to Takeshi Uchiyamada, the Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor Company, the company plans to release six new hybrid vehicles by the end of 2012: four under the Toyota brand, and the other two are from Lexus. The 40-mpg-plus 2012 Lexus CT 200h sporty compact hybrid is strongly predicted to be one of these two Lexus hybrids.

Lexus Hybrid 2012 - Features

First introduced in March 2010 at the Geneva Motor Show as the 2011 model year, the CT 200h is one of the latest petrol/electric hybrid cars from Lexus. The 2012 edition of the CT 200h, however, will not feature any major changes from its predecessor. This hybrid compact car is smaller than the other Lexus hybrid, the HS 250h. The 2012 CT 200h is classified as a 5-door compact hatchback with front engine, front wheel drive engine layout. It comes equipped with a 1.8 liter VVT-I 4-cylinder petrol engine, the same engine used by the highly popular mid-size hatchback Toyota Prius. This engine can generate up to 98 horsepower and 142 Nm of torque. When combined with the electric generator of the hybrid rive system, both engines can produce 134 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque. According to a study done in Australia, the 2012 CT 200h only consumes 4.1 liter for 100 km use. Imagine how much money you could save!

A driver can choose whether to drive the car with either one or the combination of the petrol/electric engine. Each option contributes to acceleration balance and fuel economy. This car does not require plug-in charging, because the electric engine recharges as the car moves. A driver can choose one of these four different powertrain modes: Normal mode for daily driving, Eco and Sport modes for high-economy, sporty driving, and EV mode which allows the car runs at 28 mph per 1 mile using electric power only.

Standard features include keyless access and engine start, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, and wireless cell phone link. Adaptive cruise control, sunroof, leather upholstered seats, navigation system, and rearview camera are optional. On the other hand, safety features include traction control, ABS, anti-skid system, curtain side airbags, front side air bags and front knee airbags. The estimated price for the 2012 CT 200h is $30,000, which makes it the cheapest hybrid in the market.

RV & Camper Shipping

Often shipping your RV or camper makes more sense than driving it. If you are going on vacation and are pressed for time, consider having your RV waiting for you at your destination rather than driving it there. If you are transporting your RV to a distant destination consider shipping your RV as the shipping cost may be far less than the gas it takes to drive there, especially with larger, gas-hungry models. So how do you go about shipping an RV? Below we've put together a short guide to RV shipping to help you through the process. Shipping a camper is really very easy; just follow these simple steps:

Get Camper Shipping Quotes. This can be intimidating as there are literally hundreds of trucking companies out there which ship RVs. One word of advice on this: Pick a reputable carrier! There are many one-man, fly-by-night campers shippers out there. Select an RV shipper which has a reputation for moving RVs on time, on budget and without damage. Free services like Shipping Sidekick allow you to get a number of camping shipping rates quotes with one short form. You can then compare the rates for yourself while being assured you are dealing with some of the most reliable RV shipping companies in the business.

Book Your Camper Shipment. Once you've gone through the quotes from the various camper shipping companies select a company which fits your budget and time constraints. You will want to inquire about insurance and this is something you definitely want to consider as it covers your camper against damage en route to its destination. It is also advisable to check the references of the camper shipping companies you are considering as all reputable camper shippers will be willing and able to offer you references from previous customers. If they are unable or unwilling to offer references select another company. Finally, also consider whether your camper will be towed, loaded onto a truck or driven to its destination. Different camper shipping companies offer different types of transport. Obviously trucking the camper saves wear, tear and mileage which may be worth the additional cost.

Prepare Your Camper For Shipping. Any alarms should be turned off during shipping. Secure the latches on all doors, windows and cabinets. Remove loose items from the walls inside the camper and stow all loose items appropriately. Make sure all appliances and electronics are off and disconnect the power supply and gas lines. Secure all exterior cargo doors and pop-outs. The camper should have sufficient gas to be loaded and unloaded (if it is being loaded onto a truck) and all doors should be locked and secured. If the camper is to be towed make sure the tow bar is properly installed and securely latched. It is also not recommended that you fill your camper with small items to be shipped. This may seem like a good way to save on shipping the small items but actually makes your camper more attractive to burglars en route.

Ship Your Camper. Make sure you are on time for the camper pickup and receipt of your camper. Please note that if your RV is being trucked shipping trucks are usually very, very large so if space is limited at either the RV pickup or destination point, a spacious nearby location should be selected such as a grocery store or mall parking lot. This can save much hassle in both the loading and unloading of your RV and is much appreciated by the drivers.

Receive Your Camper. When your camper arrives at its destination you want to immediately do a thorough inspection of the vehicle to note any damage which may have occurred during shipping. Report any such damage immediately to the shipper who will give you the appropriate paperwork for a claim. The camper shipper will then reimburse you for any verifiable damage which occurred if you have the appropriate insurance. The vast majority of campers are shipped without incident but the inspection upon receipt of your camper is crucial to note damage which occurred in shipping and assure there is not a dispute as to when it occurred. If you are not available to immediately receive your camper at its destination most camper shipping companies can arrange for storage until delivery. There is an additional cost for this; inquire with your RV shipping company if this service is needed.

Throughout the process, make sure the camper shipping company has a number where they can reach you. Keep in mind that schedules do change and some delays are beyond the control of the RV shipping companies. By following the above simple guidelines you are well on your way to having a positive camper moving experience. You can then sit back and leave the driving to the camper shipper.

Automotive Reviews and Skeptical Journalism

When we hear the words 'automotive reviews' we think of comparative tests, investigations, technical details, advantages and disadvantages of a particular car model. People are most interested in automotive reviews when they are about to purchase a vehicle. This is an important decision for the potential buyer since the car may remain in his/her possession for many years. Actually, statistics say that the purchase of a car is the second largest expense for many people. In developing countries, the situation is even worse than that, as choosing a certain car is sometimes a life commitment for those people. Under these circumstances, automotive reviews are a must. No automobile is to be purchased without having consulted its review.

Automotive reviews are useful for all kinds of customers, from those are simply interested in buying a cheap car with good gas mileage to those who are mostly interested in design and comfort. To all these people the purchase of a car may appear as a very challenging experience, since the auto market is vast and the lack of experience can prove to be a serious drawback. Needless to say all those interested in purchasing a car should follow the latest automotive news in order to keep up with what is new in this vast and complicated area. However, automotive reviews cannot be found on television every day, nor do they appear in newspapers. Moreover, specialized media, such as auto magazines, which are issued weekly or monthly, may not give the automotive reviews you need when you need them. Therefore, a good source of accurate and reliable automotive reviews is the Internet. Automotive blogs are full of information with and about cars and many related topics. In addition, you get more than statistics or official figures, because people like you have posted their comments or facts from personal experience on those car blogs. Sometimes this beats all automotive reviews.

As we have stated before, there are many sources of automotive news and reviews. The problem is that some of them may not be as reliable as we think and this can be damaging to the consumer. There are times when the interests of certain companies stand in the way of giving consumers honest advice. A good share of criticism is not a must have for automotive reviews. However, skeptical journalism is proof that the consumer' s best interest is at the top of the priority list. Auto magazines present a lot of automotive reviews because that's their line of work, but they will rarely point out possible flaws of automobiles.

Everyone will agree that in the auto magazines or TV shows, the automotive reviews sound a little too good to be true. You can check out the latest automotive news in magazines and on TV shows, but as far as the reviews are concerned, you should only trust what you see with your own eyes. This may turn out to be a little difficult at times, but fortunately we live in the technology era, and seeing it for yourself is now possible on the internet. If a car reviewer speaks of some less appealing features of a certain automobile, there's the chance of actually seeing them by means of multimedia. Criticism equals bad publicity, so when it comes to magazines or television shows, there's a good chance that the consumer will be deprived of his right to be honestly and correctly informed. Therefore, the internet remains the most reliable source of both automotive news and automotive reviews.

Choosing Camper Trailers Or Fifth Wheel Campers

There are several choices of towable campers: travel trailers, fifth wheel campers, toy haulers, hybrid campers and pop up or tent campers. The camper that best suits you will vary from person to person. Here are several things to consider when choosing your camper:

*Tow Vehicle - Depending on the kind of tow vehicle you have will help to determine whether you can pull a fifth wheel camper or if you must buy a bumper pull camper. One of the first things that you really have to take a look at is how much weight can your tow vehicle pull. Once you have determined this, it may eliminate many campers and help to narrow your decision.

Remember that the dry weight (unloaded) of the camper does not include any water or cargo weight. If you are going to haul water, keep in mind that water weighs 8lbs per gallon. That can really add up quickly! When possible, fill your fresh water tank at your camping location. Also dump your waste water tanks at your camp ground if they offer that service. With water weight and cargo weight, you can expect to add an addition 500-800lbs to the dry weight of your camper. Allow for that extra weight when figuring the total weight of the campers you are considering.

* Budget - Campers will vary in price from a several hundred dollars for older or fixer-upper campers to almost $100,000 for the cream of the crop campers. Price will be affected by the camper's age, brand and size. Shop around on the internet and see what kind of campers are selling in your price range. Make sure that the amount that you have budgeted is going to get you the kind of camper you are looking for.

You should set a reasonable spending budget. If you are paying cash, know what the maximum amount of money that you want to spend. Remember that you will also have taxes and insurance costs on top of the actual cost of the camper so keep that in mind. If you are going to finance, know how much money you can comfortably afford each month. Once you have set your budget, stick with it. It will make you feel better about your purchase after everything is said and done.

* Size - Campers come in many lengths. The longer the camper, the more it will weigh. The more slide out rooms there are, the more the camper will weigh. Keep your maximum tow weight in mind when considering size.

If you visit certain camp sites, make sure that the camper that you choose is not too big for your favorite places.

* Sleeping Capacity -Make sure that you consider the average number of people that will be sleeping in the camper on a regular camping trip. Don't worry about the people that "might" go with you every once-in-awhile. They usually don't end up going very often.

Most campers have a master bed, some type of sleeper sofa or jackknife sofa and if it has a booth dinette, the dinette can be converted to a sleeping area. With more families camping together, bunkhouses campers are becoming very popular.

* Amenities - Campers come with many options and features. Most campers are normally equipped with: refrigerator, microwave, stove, water hookup with water pump, hot water heater, toilet, shower, sink, stereo, stabilizer jacks, awning, propane tanks, furnace and air-conditioner.

Some of the other features that are common are: outside cook station, outside shower (hot & cold water), outside speakers, power jacks and awning, enclosed underbelly, spare tire and carrier, outside ladder (to roof) to name a few.

If you use this list to help narrow down your choice of campers, it will make choosing your camper easier and help you to make sure you get the camper that you really want.

McLaren Mercedes Improving Performance Just Before Season Starts?

The story of the preseason testing in Formula One has been really two fold. On one hand, the stellar performance of Brawn GP has been surprising. On the other, the shockingly poor performance of McLaren Mercedes has been just as surprising.

The preseason tests have been surprisingly consistent. There was a period where the teams thrashed through initial problems and then started setting competitive times. As one would expect, Ferrari was at the top of the list. The odd thing was Brawn GP was ahead of them on that list while McLaren Mercedes was no where to be found as the team turned in times languishing at the bottom of the results.

The Brawn GP times appear a bit dubious, but many wonder about the legitimacy of the problems at McLaren. McLaren has had problems launching new cars before. They have a tendency of either getting the car horribly wrong or getting it just right. Who can forget the legendary MP4-18, which was so poor that it never even saw the track!

Many assumed McLaren Mercedes would be strong entering this year given the talents of Lewis Hamilton, the 2008 Driver's Champion. The subtle question few mentioned was whether Hamilton could develop a car. It was only when the controversial Fernando Alonso came on board in the 2007 season that McLaren caught up to the pace of the Ferrari. Whether that was due to Alonso or some swiped Ferrari data is anyone's guess. Regardless, the current team of engineers and drivers at McLaren has never developed a new car to the extent required by that new rules and regulations in Formula One.

Preseason testing has been cause for concern. The McLaren has been as much as three seconds off the pace of the front runners. Even with the new rules, that figure is a staggering one that can be nearly impossible to overcome in one season. The issue appears to be the rear wing on the car. Regardless, the debate about whether McLaren really have problems or not has been a lively one with nobody really knowing until the season starts in Australia in late March.

The good news for McLaren fans is the team put up a competitive time today in testing. While all other teams except Williams have completed their testing, McLaren was still at it. The time was 1:18.202. This is about half a second off the best laps being put down by other teams. Half a second is a manageable gap. Given the fact the lap was put down by the unimpressive Heikki Kovalainen, one can surmise that Lewis Hamilton will be just fine with the new car.

Does this mean McLaren is in the clear? Nobody knows. The entire 2009 grid is a complete unknown and that is great! All the teams are starting from the same point for the first time in years and that means a boatload of excitement. A betting man would be crazy to imagine McLaren will not be right there at the front competing with Ferrari and the like.

Aircraft Undercarriages

With very few exceptions, all aircraft need an undercarriage. This performs two main functions:

o It supports the aircraft on the ground.

o It absorbs the shock of landings and provides smooth taxying.

There is more to an undercarriage than just carrying out these functions, however. It must support the aircraft in the desired attitude on the ground, so that the drag on the take-off run is minimised, and the aircraft taxies without any tendency to float at normal speeds. It must withstand the loads that will occur during all movements on the ground, including braking and side loads. The undercarriage serves no function at all during flight, so it must be as small and light as possible.

There are many different layouts of undercarriage in current use. The type chosen depends on the type of aircraft and its intended use. For almost all aircraft, except some light aircraft, the tricycle layout is preferred, because it supports the aircraft in a horizontal attitude, giving low drag during the ground run. However, there are several different kinds of main unit, for different installations.

The designer's main concern when choosing the type of main unit is how many wheels the unit will have, and their arrangement. This will depend on the weight of the aircraft and the way in which the undercarriage is to be retracted.

Aircraft wheels.

Each main-wheel unit may contain a single wheel, a pair of wheels side by side or in tandem, or four or more wheels. As aircraft become heavier, the loading on each wheel increases, leading to a considerable increase in the damage done to runways. By having the weight spread over a greater number of wheels, the contact pressure of the undercarriage is reduced. This also increases safety if a tyre bursts on landing. The Boeing 747 has 18 wheels - four main units, each with four wheels, and a dual nose-wheel unit.

Apart from the single-wheel main unit, the simplest type is the twin-wheel side-by-side (or dual) arrangement, which is used on many fighters, as well as medium-sized transports such as the Boeing 727 and 737, the Fokker F28 and many turboprop aircraft.

By far the most common arrangement of main units for large aircraft is the dual-tandem layout, also known as a bogey or truck. This is widely used on commercial aircraft, since it gives a good combination of low ground pressure and relatively easy retraction arrangements. The Boeing 747, 757, 767 and the Airbus series are just a few examples of the many aircraft using this arrangement. It is easily capable of retracting forwards or sideways, and the bogey can be rotated to fit into awkward spaces. If necessary, the bogey can be held parallel to the ground during retraction, to allow a shallow well to be used.

Retracting undercarriages.

One of the main reasons for the particular choice of undercarriage arrangement is the problem of retraction. The main units of low-wing aircraft are usually retracted into the wing, which is quite straightforward in most cases. With high-wing aircraft, this would require a long undercarriage, which increases weight. Twin turboprop aircraft have engine nacelles on the wing, and it is quite common to retract the main legs into these nacelles. Otherwise, they must be stowed in the fuselage. However, the points of contact of the undercarriage with the ground must be far enough apart to make the aircraft stable during take-off, landing and taxying, so the shape of the main units can become quite complex.

The tandem undercarriage is rarely used. However, a variation of the tandem arrangement is the jockey unit, which comprises two or three levered legs in tandem on each side of the fuselage, sometimes sharing a common horizontal shock absorber. It is particularly useful for high-wing medium-sized transport aircraft, because the undercarriage is easily retracted into panniers - bulges on the side of the aircraft. This gives a constant width of cargo area in the fuselage, and of course the widest load that can be carried is often restricted by the narrowest point in the load space. Among the advantages of this design are excellent rough-field performance and the ability to `kneel' the aircraft by partially retracting the undercarriage to reduce the slope of loading doors. This is particularly useful where the aircraft is used to transport vehicles. The units also retract into a small space, without pentrating into the load space.

There are a number of other wheel arrangements in use, including tri-twin tandem, dual twin, dual-twin tandem and twin tricycle, but the more complex the type the less commonly it is used. However, as increasingly large aircraft are developed to take maximum advantage of crowded airspace, the number of wheels in undercarriages must be increased to keep ground pressures reasonably low, and limit damage to runways and taxiways.

With combat aircraft, the main undercarriage has another limitation, which is the requirement to clear stores fitted under the fuselage. The undercarriage must not interfere with these stores either in its extended position or during retraction. Many combat aircraft carry under-fuselage stores, and this can result in some rather awkward-looking undercarriage arrangements.

The undercarriage design will normally allow for steering, and a reasonable turn radius is needed for ground maneuvering. At the same time it must have a safety mechanism that prevents the nose wheel from being turned after retraction, and ensures that the wheel is straight for landing.

EASA/FAA wheel repair.

If the undercarriage hits a large obstacle that the aircraft wheels cannot climb, there is a risk that considerable damage may be done to the structure that supports the undercarriage. Shear pins are fitted, which will fail and allow the collapse of the undercarriage before the load rises beyond a safe level. The aircraft will still be damaged, of course, but not to the same extent as it would without this feature. The position of the undercarriage units is very important, particularly the main units. If they are too far forward, the aircraft may tip during loading and taxying. If they are too far aft, the aircraft will pitch forward violently during landing, which could cause the nose leg to collapse. If the main units are not sufficiently wide apart, the aircraft may tend to roll sideways on the ground, especially in side winds and during taxying. If they are too far apart, the aircraft may be prone to ground loops - a sudden violent turn to left or right, perhaps even more than a full circle. The nose leg must also be positioned carefully because its distance from the main units affects the proportion of the total weight that it carries. If it is too lightly loaded, the steering may not be effective, but the load must not be so high as to require the nose leg and associated structure to be unnecessarily strong and heavy. The designer will often be limited by the available structure and, as always, the position may be a compromise.

Most EASA FAA wheel repair is mercifully routine and not as a result of trauma. Airbus Boeing Tucano Honeywell Goodrich and Dunlop aircraft wheels repaired reclaimed and modified can be done at a choice of approved repair facilities.

Aircraft Examination Services

In a jammed city or a concrete jungle city, parking problem exist not only for vehicle drivers in the city but also to major airlines companies. Due to lesser space, parking becomes a big problem. The aircraft storage and parking is highly expensive. These expenses are huge add-ons on list of expenditure for airlines companies. The duration to park the aircraft at lesser rates on long or short term basis totally depends on airlines companies and their necessity. Many aircraft operators require storing aircraft for more than one reason like: seasonal and climatic fluctuation or specific market condition or leasing contract termination. The aircraft parking is permitted for a limited period of time as per the documented communication. The airline companies need to have a written permission that they can park their aircraft for specific period of time specifically allocated for aircraft parking.

The aircraft storage and aircraft parking is a concern of EASA Part-145 AMO that takes care of parking the airbus at all geographic locations. The inspection of aircraft is a big challenge for EASA Part-145 AMO. Apart from aircraft parking; it also takes charge of aircraft maintenance. Aircraft like other machines need to undergo regular maintenance procedure in order to keep the aircraft functional. The cost of the aircraft maintenance is expensive though. Poor maintenance can lead to heavy risk and huge uncertainty. However, aircraft maintenance is quite a large course of an action; one should adhere to it and undertake it at regular intervals. Aircraft maintenance is not a rocket science. There just few procedures and hierarchy that repairs team has to follow. As per the norm, after every flight, the aircraft have to undergo an examination by the engineers of aircraft maintenance squad. Inspection and audit of engines follows a specific schedule. Work such as replacing tires, inspection plates, checking cylinder compression and washing windows, this all falls under aircraft maintenance.

Once the utility term of the aircraft expires, it is outsourced to the dispose department i.e. aircraft disposal. This is a big challenge for EASA Part-145 because it's a lengthy process and it takes a whole lot of time. Aircraft Dispose team undertakes the decomposing of airbus. Most of the parts are burned while some aircraft parts are thrown at trash area. The aircraft is assembled in one area. Parts such as airframes and engine modular are recycled. It's mandatory to dispose the hazardous materials that are harmful for health and to also relocate some parts. EASA Part-145 AMO is located in most part of the world which includes all the top airlines companies that deals with aircraft maintenance disposal, storage and parking. EASA Part-145 AMO also provides service certification for parts and machinery that is removed from the aircraft subject to the severe criteria. It's means once done with aircraft disposal, then the parts that can be recycled or used for any other purpose should taken out and outsourced to other companies and then finally have the aircraft disposed completely.

Getting Dirty Is Work for Some Yamaha ATVs and Fun for Others

It is hard to imagine all the uses for a Yamaha ATV. The real question is if you use your ATV for pleasure or work? So how do you answer that question? Yamaha ATVs can be used for hunting, sport, trail blazing, or working around the fields, hauling stuff, or whatever your heart desires. Why Porsche Was Driven Out of Formula One

Whenever Porsche entered races, people where blown away by its performance. The Porsche car usually took first place, and if not first, it was always in the top three. Some races were deemed to be mind-blowing by critics, and Porsche enthusiasts were in their element! It was only a natural progression that the Porsche moved on to Formula One.

Porsche's first entry into Formula One took place in the season of 1961 to 1962. Porsche fans were a little perturbed to say the least. Porsche only managed to achieve one championship win thanks to Dan Gurney at the end of the French Grand Prix in 1962. Porsche did win another race, but it was a non-championship cup. At the end of its first season competing, Porsche retired from Formula 1. They cited that the reason for this was the high cost of their participation in the races. Naturally, this was because they were not winning anything in order to get their money back for the amounts they had invested in their venture.

In 1983 Porsche reentered the world of Formula One. This time, they supplied engines manufactured under the name TAG for the McLaren Team. Luckily for Porsche, TAG was a huge success. The Porsche powered cars won two titles for construction, and in addition to this, three drivers were crowned in championships in the years 1984, 1985 and 1986.

In 1991, Porsche returned as an engine supplier to Formula One. Unfortunately, the results were not as satisfactory as they had been before. Porsche entered their cars under the name Footwork, but failed to score any points. In over half the races they participated in, Porsche even failed to qualify at all! Since this disastrous year, Porsche has not returned to Formula One. There has been much speculation as to why they did not return again. It could very well be because Porsche was a very successful brand with a good reputation. If they continued to participate in Formula One, and experienced these embarrassing failures for the world to see, the Porsche brand would begin to lose its status.

Despite Porsche's failed attempt at a successful entry into Formula One, they still continue to dazzle on the race track. Nowadays, Porsche participates in smaller, more localized races. There are special Porsche races for enthusiasts that are hugely successful. In other larger races, the Porsche is normally modified, but still does well. Unfortunately for Porsche, the only real professional category that they participate in these days is the Porsche Michelin Super Cup. This cup is raced as a support category at the European Formula One.

In retrospect, there can be many thoughts on why Porsche did so badly in Formula One. Logically, it was the wisest decision for them to retire. Porsche is well renowned for its class, sleek lines and powerful engines. The Formula One is one of the biggest marketing campaigns for car manufacturers in the world, and naturally Porsche did not want to be advertised as being failures with less than championship level engines.

Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes Team Hits New Era

The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team is expected to spread out the thrill and the excitement in the race track this weekend. This will be the team's very first time to invade the track in its new era. Fernando Alonso, Double and his equally famous teammate Lewis Hamilton, have completed their pre-season test programme with the MP4-22s. The test programme covered over 13,300km before arriving in Australia. Fernando and Lewis completed 10,200km while Pedro dela Rosa, another famous racer, covered 3,100km.

Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team infrastructure arrived in Australia by sea freight during the week commencing 26th February, having left the McLaren Technology Centre on 10th January. This was followed by the air freight. On the 11th of this month, the team arrived with Fernando arriving in Melbourne on the 12th and Lewis on the 14th.

Upon arrival in Melbourne, the first task given to the team is to find the freight and start the process of setting up the necessary facilities like the garage and office areas. The few days spent were full of fun and stimulation. On Thursday, Fernando and Lewis will join Pedro for a team event at a beach front restaurant in Melbourne, before arriving at the Albert Park track to walk the track with their engineers and partake in the first technical meeting of the Grand Prix.

The team has spent time during the winter season with Fernando and Lewis familiarizing everyone and building one solid unit. The phase was more like a process of learning and having two new drivers to add element of motivation.

"Having spent the winter getting to know my new team and new car, I feel really at home and am very motivated to start racing. I always enjoy Australia, there is a great atmosphere and I am excited to get out there and see where we are compared to the other teams," said Alonso. "There are a lot of new things in the sport this season such as new rules, all teams running on Bridgestone Potenzas, drivers changing teams. Everyone is starting from zero and it is going to make things very interesting. Am I going to go out at Albert Park and win my first race with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes? We are certainly going to push hard to try."

Both drivers have been working closely with their race engineers during testing at the McLaren Technology Centre. Alonso is working with Mark Slade and Hamilton with Phil Prew. During the Grands Prix, Fernando will have Steve Hallam as his contact on the pit wall and then Lewis will be speaking with Richard Hopkirk. Car racing parts are also checked to ensure maximum performance. These cars may not be mated to Bosch product lines but the power is remarkably better.

"Taking to the grid Australia is the end of one journey for me and the start of an even bigger one. I have been working incredibly hard towards this moment over the past few months, testing, physical training, working with the engineers at the McLaren Technology Centre and studying the regulations," Hamilton said. "I feel I have the experience I need and I definitely feel ready to get out there. This year will be a learning curve for me, Albert Park is one of the seven new tracks I'll be racing on, but it is not a huge problem more an exciting challenge. I have always enjoyed street circuits, so it is great to start my career in Formula 1 with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes here."

Yamaha Motorcycles - Creativity and Spirit of Challenge

"If you are going to do something, be the best"

Ginichi Kawakami, Yamaha Motor Company First President.

Yamaha Motorcycles, under this motto, employing all its creativity, and with a very strong spirit of challenge, became what it is now: one of the biggest players in the worldwide motorcycling scene.

But Yamaha's history doesn't start with motorcycles...

It is back in 1877 that Torakusu Yamaha started with the Nippon Gakki Company that later would become Yamaha Corporation: an important manufacturer of fine musical instruments.

As the company grew, they explored several fields of opportunity in the textile industry and others.

During the World War II, the company set up a factory to produce airplane propellers. This plant played an important role in Yamaha's entry to the motorcycle industry as you will see.

After the war, Yamaha Corporation had to find new ways to use the tooling and experience that had been accumulated during their times in the airplane industry, and it was then when Yamaha Motor Corporation was founded.

It's important to mention that even though this new company was just another branch of Yamaha Corporation, it was placed under an independent management. In this case, under the guidance of Ginichi Kawakami; which turned out to be a brilliant move.

Before producing their first motorcycle, Ginichi Kawakami traveled a lot establishing what would be very useful relationships. He also sent out his engineers to Europe and had them learn how to build motorcycles, particularly from DKW; whom with they kept an underground and unofficial long lasting relationship.

One proof of this is that nowadays, the only two manufacturers in the world of mass-produced five side-valve engines are Yamaha an Audi (DKW - Auto Union).

One of the most important legacies from this international relationships were all the skills learnt by Yamaha's engineers on two stroke engines know-how. Other manufacturers as Suzuki would not reach the same level of development in this area till seven years later.

Not to wonder why the first bike from Yamaha Motorcycles the 125 YA-1 was fairly a faithful copy of the 1949 DKW RT 12. The only two important differences were the four speed gearbox instead of the original three speed gearbox, and a gear transmission replacing the primary chain drive.

IMPORTANT MODEL FROM YAMAHA MOTORCYCLES

>>> Yamaha YA-1

Even though the Yamaha YA-1 - baptized "Acatombo" (Red dragonfly) by its fans - had "nothing in special" and was more expensive than its competitors, it almost immediately became a great success.

It was reliable: before putting it into the market, the prototypes were tested along 10,000 miles of rough rides . Even the big boss himself, Ginichi Kawakami, rode the bike without any incident from Hamamatsu to Tokyo.

It was beautiful: with this model Yamaha was the first manufacturer to put special attention to the decoration of the motorcycle. This task was given to GK Design in Tokyo. It's worth mentioning that this firm has designed the "look" of most Yamaha motorcycles to date.

It was fast: the YA-1 obtained excellent overall results in the most important local races of that time: Mount Fuji (third place) and Mount Asama (first place).

In fact it was this aggressive attitude in the sporting world that helped Yamaha Motorcycles gain fast acceptance even though they made a late start in the motorcycle scene (in comparison to Honda and Suzuki).

In other words: Yamaha Motorcycles showed the world they had arrived to be considered good and fierce competitors from the beginning. Particularly to Honda and Suzuki.

Other important models from that time were:

>>> The Yamaha YD-1 (the competition for the Suzuki TP of that time)

Some technical specifications:

Yamaha YD-1

15 hp

70 mph.

185,000 yen

in comparison to:

Suzuki TP

18 hp

80 mph.

195,000 yen

>>> The Yamaha YDS-1

The dream bike of all young Japanese between 1959-1960.

Some technical specifications:

20 hp

333 lbs.

85 mph.

Direct rival of the Honda CB72

Since then, the history of models and victories goes on and on...

Today, Yamaha Motorcycles is one of the major players in the worldwide motorcycling scene.

Just to give you an idea of how important Yamaha Motorcycles have become:

- The 2004 Moto GP was won by excellent rider Valentino Rossi on a Yamaha motorcycle.

I could go an and on writing about Yamaha Motorcycles, victories, challenges and models but I would need a whole book...

So to learn more about Yamaha Motorcycles, I invite you to visit this page:

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/products/mcy/epic/epic_home.html

You will find a pictorial history of Yamaha Motorcycles from 1955 to 2001.

Enjoy the ride!

Mclaren MP4-21 Formula One Car 2006

We have seen the new Mclaren MP4-21 formula one car in testing for a little while now. We knew that Mclaren would deliver a striking car. But now it has been seen in full colors and livery there is only one word for it; stunning, sorry two words, absolutely stunning. The press have dubbed previous Mclaren cars as the "silver arrow" but the new 2006 MP4-21 car has a sheen that makes the silver almost look like chrome plate. Some of the familiar sponsorship has also gone, with a well know whiskey brand now more prominent, although the official pictures do not yet show any advertising on their rear wings, which are now a striking red color.

Of course it will take more than a good-looking car to win races and Mclaren have not been short of their technical problems during this winter's preparation. It appears that Mercedes who provide the engines for Mclaren have struggled with reliability problems with their new V8 engine and have admitted they are not where they would like to be so near to the start of the season, with the first race in Bahrain. It would not be the first time that Mclaren have suffered reliability problems at the beginning of the season. Just last season reliability problems reduced Kimi's points well below what was expected early on, however as the season progressed the Mclaren car, then clearly became the fastest on the grid. Had the reliability been there during the early races, chances are it would not have been Alonso taking the world championship but a "silver arrow" driver.

One thing you can be certain of is that Mercedes will be working around the clock to iron out these issues and will continue working until the package is competitive or even unbeatable. Alonso the current world champion has already signed for Mclaren for 2007 and will want to beat them this season, but will also be hoping the car is competitive and lessons learned in time for his showing in 2007. They say beauty is only skin deep, but lets hope in this case the beauty can extend to what is under the car, to give the spectators a season to remember.

Bollywood After 9/11 - The Depiction of Islam and the West in Indian Cinema

Since the dramatic events of 9/11, Bollywood cinema has shown an unusual interest in the terrorist film genre, especially as regards to international terrorism and global tensions between Islam and the West. Striking examples of this genre include Kabir Khan's New York (2008), Karan Johar's My Name is Khan (2010), Rensil D'Silva's Kurbaan (2009) and Apoorva Lakhia's Mission Istanbul, to name a few. Films like Anil Sharma's Ab Tumhare Hawale Watam Sathiyo (2004) and Subhash Ghai's Black and White (2008) focus on terrorist issues within the Indian subcontinent itself. The latter films have continued in the tradition of pre 9/11 terrorist films like Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Mission Kashmir (2000), Mani Ratnam's Dil Se (1998) and Bombay (1995). Ratnam's Bombay dealt with the devastating Hindu and Moslem riots in 1991, which cost over a 1000 lives. Chopra's Mission Kashmir dealt with a scenario of local terrorist activity in the Kashmir region sponsored by international terrorist cells working from Afghanistan. In this way the terrorist genre is not an entirely new genre in Bollywood, nor is terrorism an unfamiliar phenomenon in the day to day activities of the Indian subcontinent (the most recent and brutal terrorist attack was the Mumbai massacre in 2008). What makes the recent spate of terrorist films interesting is that they have entered the global sphere and have become part and parcel of a transnational dialogue between East and West and Islam and the other.

To make the terrorist genre more palatable, Bollywood has traditionally spiced up the violence and suspense with the hallmark Bollywood song and dance interludes and sentimental romantic exchanges between the hero and heroine. Mission Kashmir is notorious for its graceful dances and stirring emotional exchanges between the main protagonists, played out on the violent backdrop of terrorism in Kashmir. Mani Ratnam's Bombay likewise mixes up the most brutal scenes of Hindu and Moslem hatred and violence with delicious comedy and a forbidden love affair between a pious Moslem girl and a boy from a highly placed Shaivite Hindu family. His father is the trustee of the village temple and both the family patriarchs are violently opposed to the children marrying outside their caste and religious community.

Karan Johar's My Name is Khan

Following in the Bollywood tradition of mixing genres (known in the industry as the masala or spicy recipe film), Karan Johar's My Name is Khan blends comedy and romance with the political hot potato of post 9/11 bigotry and racial hatred in the US. The film's theme of ultra-nationalist extremism culminates in the senseless killing of a young Indian boy Sam or Sameer, who is beaten to death by youths in the football ground, in part due to the adopting of his stepfather's name Khan. Overflowing gushes of emotion and heart stirring romantic songs, such as the mixing of the 1960's counter culture anthem "We Shall Overcome" (sung in both Hindi and English), occur throughout the film to both lighten the tension and to exemplify the presence of light and hope in a world darkened by the bitter shadow of global terrorism. The fact that the central protagonist Rizvan Khan is a pious Moslem, and politically neutral to the hysteria of the debate, is significant. Brought up by his mother that there are no fixed labels such as Hindu and Moslem, but only good and bad people, Rizvan Khan freely practises his religion with equal love and respect for all other races and creeds, only differentiating between what is in the hearts and minds of people, not to what religion they profess, or to what race, culture and nationality they belong.

My Name is Khan is also significant for Bollywood fans in that it reunites the biggest heart throb couple of Hindi cinema from previous decades, Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan. The duo was previously paired in two of Karan Johar's earlier blockbusters Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1995) and Kabhi Kushi Kabhie Gham (2001). Both of these films were sentimental gushy romances, literally overflowing with juicy outpourings of emotion and feeling; a phenomenon which is termed rasa in India. The song and dance sequences were also very elaborately staged and combined a balance of the traditional Indian music and dance forms (Hindustani music and traditional folk dances) as well as modern Western forms. This ensured the films' immense popularity in both India and diaspora countries like Canada, the US and the UK.

Karan Johar continues to utilise the Bollywood masala formula in My Name is Khan, exploiting a sentimental and occasionally drawn out love affair between the autistic hero Rizvan Khan and his eventual Hindu wife Mandira, a proprietor of a successful hair dressing salon in San Francisco (the "city of love" which symbolizes the 1960s counter culture movement exploited by Johar in the "We Shall Overcome" sequence). In the preliminary scenes of the film, America is portrayed as the land of freedom and opportunity, the nation where all races and religions are given the possibility to move forward and achieve prosperity and happiness in a way that is seen to be almost impossible in a country like traditional India, buffeted as it is with caste and religious prejudices and between half and two thirds of its population living in poverty.

For foreign nationals or NRI's (non-resident Indians), however, 9/11 radically changes this formula and shatters the American dream nurtured for decades by an Indian diaspora which has merged its Indian cultural roots with American ideals of individual freedom and consumer prosperity. According to Johar's film, this is now the plight of the Khans who, instead of continuing to act as fully integrated members of the mainstream community, now suddenly find themselves on the periphery of a post-9/11"us and them" rhetoric, fuelled by an ultra-nationalist Republican President, who perceives the world in black and white realities, which have little to do with the everyday lives of the average individual. It is no coincidence that it is the newly elected President Barack Obama (played by his look alike Christopher B. Duncan) who greets Rizvan Khan at the end of the movie and applauds him for his faith in God and his humanity and perseverance. For Karan Johar, Obama's election is symbolic of the "us and them" divisions in the US psyche being brought to a close along with the restoration of the innate ideals for which the American Republic and its people stand.

Before the nation's divisions are healed, however, the Khan's experience extreme personal hardships due to their ethnicity. These hardships culminate in the tragic death of their teenage son Sameer, beaten to death in the school playing field by racist youths. In her grief, Sameer's mother Mandira blames her husband Rizvan, accusing him of the fact that if she and her son had not taken the name of Khan, he would not be dead. She then tells him that the only way he can atone for this stigma of being a Khan and, by implication a Moslem, is to meet the US President (at the time it is George W. Bush) and to tell him that: "My Name is Khan and I am not a Terrorist." This simple phrase becomes a kind of mantra throughout the film, powerfully confronting the viewer's post-9/11 prejudices by refusing to link the two concepts of Islam and terrorism together: i.e. my name is Khan, therefore I am a Moslem, but at the same time just because I am a Moslem, does this mean that I am a terrorist? Unhappily, during the hysteria that followed in the wake of 9/11 for many Westerners the two terms, Moslem and terrorist became pretty much synonymous.

This is a film therefore which, unlike its predecessors, is not only aimed at instructing Indians and West Asians (it broke all records in Pakistan), but is also aimed at educating and enlightening Westerners. This it does in a very subtle and didactic way, not only through its exploitation of familiar West Asian icons, but also through its exploration of themes and images universal to the US and the West: the 1960s counter culture, the plight of the coloured people in the South and references to the civil rights movement via the film's theme song "We Shall Overcome." This famous anti-establishment song from 1960s when sung in Hindi by a devout Moslem in a black gospel church gives the audience an almost surreal feeling of both merging and, at the same time transcending, national, racial and socio-religious cultural borders: a path to world brotherhood and unity which has been courageously expounded by two of the twentieth century's great spiritual leaders, India's Mahatma Gandhi and America's Martin Luther King.

Karan Johar thus draws upon both the Western ideals of liberty and individualism, as well as propounding the roots of West Asian religious piety and communal solidarity. By doing this My Name is Khan proposes an alternate model of global brotherhood and transnational identities and exchanges. This new global model for Johar is one which draws its inspiration and ideals from the grass roots level- from the poor coloureds of Georgia, from the socially ostracised Moslems, and from the autistic and mentally handicapped. All of them are an integral part of this global humanity and in the end the figure of Shah Rukh Khan, the biggest megastar in the global forum today (including Hollywood), speaks for all of them, when he says my name is Khan and I am not a terrorist, not an outcaste and not a threat to the US or the essential values which it seeks to export to the rest of the world. Rather, as pious Moslems, those like Rizvan Khan have something of value to contribute to the US and the West, and when those in power allow them to do so, the essential values which have made the US great can not only be maintained but increased and broadened. On the other hand, ultranationalist extremist practises will only create more and more hatred and division, so that even those who have assimilated the American Dream will grow to become its most sworn enemies. This is the main theme of Kabir Khan's New York, which I will briefly discuss in part two of this article.

Kabir Khan's New York

Although not as successful at the box office as Karan Johar's blockbuster, Kabir Khan's New York is perhaps an even more interesting example of the transnational trend in the Bollywood terrorist genre. Released in 2008, New York focuses on the lives of three trendy young Indians studying at New York State University together. The usual Bollywood masala romance dominates the first half of the film, focusing on a sentimental love triangle between Maya (Katrina Kaif), Sameer or Sam (John Abrahams) and Omar (Neil Mukesh). Both Katrina Kaif and John Abrahams, as well as Irrfan Khan (playing the FBi agent Roshan) are well established stars in Bollywood (Irrfan Khan also starred as the policeman who interrogates the main protagonist in Slumdog Millionaire). And the presence of these stars, along with the solid musical score and the dramatic love triangle scenario, assured the film's success despite its controversial theme. Significantly, Sam and Maya fall in love and shatter Omar's emotional world at around the same time as the two hijacked passenger planes are driven into the Twin Towers. As with My Name is Khan, actual footage of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre is utilised in the film.

From this point onwards, a film which has been mostly centred upon a sentimental love conflict between three friends now becomes a political indictment of the Bush administration's post-9/11 terrorist policies. Sam, as part of the FBI's nationwide hunt for terror suspects, is arrested, incarcerated and tortured. These tortures are graphically depicted in the film and are apparently based on true life accounts of innocent victims, who have been illegally arrested and incarcerated for no other reason than their having the wrong ethnic background and religious persuasion. During the final credits a grim note to this effect informs the viewers of the facts that: "In the days following 9/11 more than 1200 men of foreign origin in the US were illegally abducted, detained and tortured for as long as 3 years. The government did not find evidence linking a single one of them to the 9/11 attack...."

The central protagonist Sam or Sameer functions as a prototype for these 1200 men. Indeed, from being a totally assimilated American before his torture and arrest, Sam now becomes a Moslem Jihadi, fusing his hatred for the United States with that of terrorist cells in Pakistan, Afghanistan and the Middle East. His old friend Omar is recruited by the FBI to spy on Sameer and his Hindu wife Maya and to crack open Sameer's links to international terrorist cells. Omar is coerced into betraying his friends at the threat of disappearing into the FBI's custody and being tortured for months on end as Sameer had been. In this way, even if the film does not actively promote Jihad as a fundamental tenet of Islam, it does portray a sympathetic psychological profile of the terrorist mind-set. Sameer's friend Omar eventually understands this also when he is given Sam's story and the barbaric nature of the ordeals he has had to endure and which have caused him to become an international terrorist.

Unlike Rizvan Khan, who has no qualms about informing the FBI about the fanatic Doctor Faisal's terrorist plot in My Name is Khan, New York's Omar is torn between his sympathies for his friend Sam/Sameer and the US system of liberty and justice, which he sees as being seriously undermined by George Bush's invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan and his repressive domestic policies in the US, where under the Patriot Act fundamental individual rights and liberties of American citizens are apparently violated for no other reason than that they are of another ethnicity, culture and religious persuasion than the mainstream white majority. Omar, as the voice of reason and sensibility in New York, also represents the neutral observer, who is both within the system (he is educated at New York State University) and is outside it (he is an NRI national from Delhi living in the US). He has also been in love with Sam's wife Maya but has tried to detach himself from these feelings, indeed from feeling anything at all. As such his decision to infiltrate his friend's terrorist group and take part in its Jihad is significant. Omar is an "undecideable"; he is unsure of his identity, unsure of his ideals and his loyalties. Eventually, he betrays Sam and his group and communicates Sam's plan to blow up the FBI headquarters to the FBI agent Roshan and the relevant authorities.

Despite promises from Roshan and the FBI executive heads, both Sameer and Maya are shot dead by FBI snipers during negotiations for Sameer's surrender. According to Kabir Khan's controversial film, this kind of FBI brutality and overkill is symptomatic of the new post-9/11 ultra-nationalist America which, in its unrelenting quest to punish the guilty, also leaves in its wake the bloodied corpses of the innocent: not just Maya, but arguably also Sam himself. This is a theme which has been taken up courageously and sometimes uncompromisingly by Hindi cinema.

Another powerful example of this uncompromising condemnation of post-9/11America occurs in Rensil D'Silva's Kurbaan. Here, in an open discussion university forum, the main protagonist Riyaaz condemns US intervention in Afgahanistan and Iraq, claiming that the world's biggest terrorists are the white super powers. Riyaaz informs the ethnic white students present about certain uncomfortable realities in US politics, such as the fact that the Taliban was a creation of the CIA and that more than 500,000 civilians were killed in Iraq. Much to the horror and consternation of the students present, Riyaaz concludes his speech by saying that "just because you wear a suit and call yourself President does not make you any less a terrorist." This is pretty bold stuff and seems to be reflective of the growing dissatisfaction of certain Bollywood filmmakers towards a period in history where the West appeared to go totally wrong taking the downward path from humanitarian ideals of universal equality and democracy to policies of religious bigotry and totalitarianism.

Interestingly, although these themes have also been taken up by Hollywood, in films such as James Cameron's Avatar, they have been depicted in a less direct way. In Avatar, for example, the" shock and awe campaign" unleashed upon the indigenous inhabitants of the planet Pandora (clearly a reference to Bush's shock and awe campaign against Iraq), occurs in the context of an ingenious fantasy universe, where the brutality of corporate capitalism and US neo-imperialist policies is downplayed in that it not only happens in the safety of another continent, as with Iraq and Afghanistan, but occurs on another planet entirely!

The new Bollywood terrorist genre is therefore a more uncompromising and indeed disturbing contribution to the global debate than films like Avatar. This is due to the fact that West Asian directors depict terrorist activity from the contemporary political standpoint, along with exploring relevant issues connected with the stigmatised cultural and ethnic group, which has been largely denied a voice in this debate ever since the 9/11 event took place. As has traditionally been the case in Indian cinema, the new Bollywood terrorist genre gives the Moslem minorities a voice, telling their story from the inside, making them subject and not object and narrating the plot from the perspective of their culture, religion and community base. In My Name is Khan, for example, Rizvan's sister in law Hasina is persuaded to remove her hijab (head scarf) after being attacked and having it forcibly removed by an unknown assailant. Eventually, she restores the hijab to her everyday dress, including her lecturing job at university. Here she says to her students: "M y hijab is not just my religious identity. It is a part of my existence. It is me."

In Rensil D'Silva's Kurbaan, the central protagonist Riyaaz is also instrumental in educating white university students about their preconceptions of Islam as a violent religion and the Koran as a scripture promoting Jihad. Riyaaz flatly informs the students that the word Jihad is in fact mentioned in the Koran only 41 times, but that the term mercy and compassion is mentioned 355 times. In this way, the film's viewers are also informed that Islam is predominantly a religion of compassion and peace and not violence and bloodshed, as right wing vested interest groups have led us to believe in the past decade or so.

It is these perspicacious insights from within the socio-religious roots of West Asian culture which makes Indian cinema, often dismissed in the West as sentimental and trivial, such a profoundly didactic medium from which audiences, especially in the West, can increase their scant knowledge about the psychology behind Hindu and Moslem icons and spiritual practises. In an increasingly global world, where these icons and practises are continually crossing over and clashing with Western standards, this knowledge and awareness is not only relevant to us in the West, it is fundamental to our very existence.

Films like New York and My Name is Khan are an integral part of the teaching of that awareness.

Toyota Expands Prius Line Up With 'V' Model

Many months ago Toyota announced its plans to expand its Prius line of hybrid cars. That expansion came to fruition recently when the all first of the new Prius models was built, the 2012 Prius V.

The Prius V is really quite similar to the original Prius, only bigger. The Prius V uses that very familiar Prius shape with the hood flowing seamlessly into the windshield line, but on the Prius V you don't get the same sloping rear end.

The Interior

The Prius V, classified as a wagon, is much more versatile, read: bigger, than the original Prius hatchback. The Prius V is a full 6 inches longer than a Prius and the front and rear axles have grown 3 inches apart. It also stands 3.3 inches taller and 1.1 inches wider than its predecessor.

Toyota's new Prius V can most closely be compared to Mazda 2012 Mazda 5, in both size and dimensions.

But all this extra length didn't go to waste. With the seats down the available interior cargo space on the Prius V is an immense 70 percent bigger from 39.6 cubic feet to 67.3 cubic feet. The staggering gain in space is due mostly to a cargo compartment that is 3 inches wider, more than 4 inches longer and a more than a few inches taller, and isn't impeded by an awkwardly sloping roofline.

Even with the rear seats in use the available cargo space went up 59 percent, from 21.6 cubic feet to 34.3 cubic feet. In an Edmunds.com practicality test the Prius V was able to hold 6 carry on sized pieces of luggage, while the Prius only held 4, a big difference for families.

One major selling point of the original Prius, aside from the gas savings obviously, was the generous amount of rear leg room. And the Prius V doesn't disappoint its backseat drivers either. In fact this version build on what the original was lacking. With the more van-like roof line of the Prius V rear passengers gain an extra 4.8 inches of head room and 2.1 inches of shoulder room.

If you don't need the added rear leg room of the Prius V, they are now made to slide forward and backward giving you and extra few inches of cargo space with the seats up when you need it.

The Engine

The only noticeable down-side of the new Prius V is the lack of a bigger engine, or electric motor or bigger battery to make up for the added weight. The Prius V uses the same 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle gas engine and Hybrid Synergy Drive system as the original, which give the Prius V the same peak horsepower of 184.

The Prius V does however use a much more aggressive final drive gear ratio of 3.70:1, than a regular Prius does, which is what allows the actual measurable of this new version to remain about the same. The Prius V was able to do 0 to 60 in 10.3 seconds and finished the quarter-mile in 17.4 seconds, compared to 10.1 and 17.3 respectively of the 2010 Prius.

The more aggressive gear ratio found in the new Prius V does take a significant chunk out the gas mileage. The new version still manages a fantastic 44 mpg in the city and 42 on the highway, but compared to the nearly 50 combined of the original Prius that is nearly a 16% decrease.

The bottom line is this is the perfect car for people who were interested in the fuel economy of the original Prius but were hesitant to buy because of the lack of overall size and cargo space of the hatchback model. Yes, gas mileage does decrease but that will happen any time the car gets bigger, and let's be honest 42 combined MPG is nothing to complain about.

Tips on Finding Acura Parts For Repairs

How should you go about locating Acura parts so that you can save a few dollars and do repairs at home rather than at the dealer? Doing repairs at home has saved me a lot of money over the years. At the cost of only my time, I have been able to do repairs at a small fraction of what a dealership or garage would charge for the same service. So, if you enjoy working on your car, doing repairs at home can be a great way to save some money. However, when it comes time to fix your Acura, where do you go to find Acura parts at a reasonable price? There are a few places you can look that will help you to get what you need at a price you like.

The first place to look for affordable Acura parts is, of course, on the internet. By using a search engine you will be able to look world wide quickly for those who may be selling Acura parts. Check first for specific Acura part dealers who may be stockpiling a lot of the parts you need and selling them at a lower price than the garage you had been using was. You can also check for general car part websites that may even give you access to their inventory database so that you can see if they have the Acura parts you need and at what price they are selling them. Look for sites that offer free shipping or discounts over other prices you have seen.

The next place to look is the old fashion way of finding Acura parts or parts for any other model: the junk yard. Find your local junk yard. You will have to likely wade through the rows of junked cars to find Acuras, but once you do you will have access to many Acura parts that the yard will likely sell you at a very reasonable price. Make sure you bring your tools, though, because you will likely have to remove the Acura part yourself and the junk yard is not in the business of loaning out tools.

Third, check the classified ads in your local paper. Often times if people are going to sell their car for parts, they may do so through the paper. Look for Acura parts listed or start calling some of the ads. Sometimes you stumble on someone who knows someone that may be able to help you get the Acura parts you need at a good price. Like with anything else, sometimes it is just about networking.

Doing repairs on your Acura yourself is a great way to save yourself a few bucks. In addition to saving on the labor, you can do a little research and likely save yourself money on the parts as well. Do some research to find Acura parts you may need at great prices by going on line, checking your local junk yards, and even making some calls to those advertising in your local paper's classifieds. You will be happy with what you will be able to save on Acura parts by just doing a little calling around and some leg work, plus you just might have fun.

Acura: A Balance of Luxury and Off-road Performance

When we talk and think of Japanese luxury cars, there's this one brand that always comes to the surface of our minds: Acura. Flourishing under the Honda umbrella, Acura made a mark in the industry by giving Honda the brownie points for being the first to present the market with Japanese cars outside Japan. Prior to Acura's debut, imported vehicles from Japan are modestly designed and generally focused on penny-prudent customers.

The fruits of a decade of painstaking research and development were harvested by the Honda Motor Company when 18 brand-new dealerships mushroomed all over North America, supporting its Acura division. Emerging as the first Japanese brand, Acura proudly presented their initial models: the Legend and the Integra, a V6-powered coupe and sedan. The success of these models swept the car industry with a bang, and it paved the way for the introduction of other Japanese car competitors such as Toyota's Lexus and Infiniti from Nissan. The world's first-ever all-aluminum production car was also manufactured by Acura, the NSX, a rear-wheel-drive sports car supported by a midship V6.

Yet, though Acura enjoyed a very successful jump start, their sales took a dive around 1990s. Expert motorists and critics attributed this decline to less awe-inspiring models and Acura's decision to drop Legend and Integra titles, replacing them with alphanumeric nomenclature formulas. During this period, even the Acura NSX sales took a dip since Acura made very minimal modifications from the original 1989 model.

And still a silver lining lurked over Acura's dark eras: it was also during this time that Acura bagged prominence with a specific bundle of customers, ?the tuner enthusiasts. Acura's parent company, Honda, has a reputation of manufacturing engines that are ?easy-to-tune? and are rev-happy--and Acura benefited from this well-deserved reviews and the Integra became a well-loved tuner car.

Early on in the year 2000, the introduction of a few redesigned models became a huge turning point for Acura. The 3.2 TL model (a pricey sedan was designed to rival models such as Infiniti I30, Lexus ES, and the BMW 3-series. Displaying a balance between sportiness and luxury, the TL's well-rounded design and competitive price snatched customers from rival models and revitalized their reputation. Models following the 3.2 TL followed the same principle of various standard equipments and minimal options.

Today, Japanese automobile manufacturers are basking in the reputation of building good quality cars? and this is largely due to the glowing reviews and praises that Acura parts gleaned from its consumers. And since Acura is under Honda, it is a given that a lot of details, planning and focus are involved when it comes to producing Acura parts. Vehicles under the Acura brand are engineered with high standards and tip-top quality, hence their well-deserved reputation for reliability.

Japanese vehicles have smaller, more efficient designs than automobiles from other countries such as Europe or America. But even with these differences, they do not pose a threat to passenger safety. Vehicles from Acura are tested and proven not only reliable, but safe cars. And why shouldn't they be? They're made up of strong and durable Acura parts. Acura models have become a favorite in the tuner culture, so a variety of modifications and customization can be done to the Acura parts.

A vehicle could not be reliable without parts that are equally trustworthy. In replacing Acura parts, choose carefully and learn to segregate cheap after-market Acura parts from those that are of high quality.
